I worked with Terry for a self-defense training for my 14-yr-old. Terry promptly replied to all Thumbtack correspondence and I ended up using her services for a 2-hr customized private training and adding myself, a friend of my daughter's and the friend's mom. The training was at Emeryville Martial Arts, which has off-street parking and is a clean and welcoming environment. The training itself was helpful, engaging and fully interactive. We practiced prevention actions as well as physical defense actions. I feel slightly less worried about my daughter's safety and realize that the training was merely an introduction. No 2-hr session can be more than that. My daughter and I both felt it was worthwhile. She really liked it and now wants to do more self-defense training. In short, I'm glad I chose to work with Terry and I recommend her for this work.

I contacted Terri to teach a self-defense class to a group of 18-year-old young women, before they went off to college. Terri was quick to respond to my e-mails and easy to work with. She organized the class, complete with online sign-up and payment and we were all set. The girls loved the class and felt that Terri not only taught them physical ways to protect themselves, but she also gave them loads of advice about how to carry themselves, how to react in situations, what to be thinking about, etc. I would recommend Terri highly.

Terri was incredibly helpful. She gave me two private lessons preparing me for self defense (body lang, verbal and physical skills) for me to use when traveling the world alone. I highly recommend using her as a resource. She tailored my lessons to my needs, was personable, and I learned a ton and gained confidence! Thanks Terri!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Discounted rates are offered for those who choose to have monthly debit payments for tuition.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I invite students to try a free class to make sure that the school and my teaching style is a fit for them. I start a student with a semi-private lesson and slowly (or sometimes quickly) integrate them into the group class.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been involved in the martial arts since 1978. I currently hold the rank of 6th degree black belt in Cuong Nhu Oriental Martial Arts. I have won numerous awards such as Martial artist of the year, 1999 and inducted into the AWMAI Hall of Fame in 2011. I regularly attend seminars and national conferences while keeping up my personal training schedule.
