Sound Before Sight Studios

I am a classically-trained Gospel & Christian Contemporary keyboardist. I've taken my 20 years of music performance and teaching experience (including 12 years as a high school music teacher and 8 years as a church music director) to create my own method of teaching you how to play by ear, using music theory as a foundation but with instantly practical application. I believe that music is best learned the way we learn language as a child—by listening, allowing our brains to connect the dots, and developing skills through exploration, repetition, and interaction. I also believe that fulfillment in music-making is best found in understanding what we are hearing and being able to reproduce that sound. While I can read music, I do not believe it practical or necessary for most people who want to play on a recreational basis. My primary focus, then, is to teach students to “hear” the melody, harmony, structure, and feel of music in such a way as to be able to reproduce and improvise on what they hear.
