In my studio, I teach voice, music theory, beginner piano, speech, and elocution. I also coach music and diction, including Italian, French, German, Latin, and English, as well as the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). Currently, I am a professional opera singer, singing across the United States and abroad. My most recent engagements included the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Chicago Lyric, l’Opera National de Bordeaux in France, and the Staatstheater Karlsruhe in Germany. With my musical background in the Canadian Royal Conservatory of Music, as well as both a bachelor's and master's degrees in music from the Lamont School of Music, I believe a solid classical technique and strong musical knowledge work together to form the foundation for performance. As a classical vocalist, one of my passions is vocal pedagogy. So as a teacher, I feel the most important job is to help my students develop a free and easy vocal production, devoid of physical tension or bad habits. I strive to cater each lesson to my students' individual needs, discovering and developing their own unique gifts, while teaching a general classical technique. In my studio, we focus on correct posture and breath support, as well as the ease of vocal production and stage presence in all genres, including classical, opera, music theatre, contemporary, pop, rock, country, jazz, folk, Christian, and gospel. Currently, my students range from young children to adults and seniors of all abilities and aspirations. I also prepare pre-college students for their auditions and entrance into college music programs in voice and theory; however, whether you wish to perform professionally or to sing in your local church choir, professional voice lessons can be a rewarding experience. Music and performing can help in all aspects of life, from presenting yourself in a professional manner to developing a work ethic. I truly believe that with time and effort, anyone can learn, no matter what their background or experience level is. Thank you, and I look forward to working with you!See more

What are singing lessons like?

Every voice coach may have a different style of teaching, but here are a few things you'll likely experience during a singing lesson:

  • Explaining to the instructor what you want to improve on.
  • Going through a few breathing and riff exercises.
  • Receiving constructive feedback and criticism from the instructor.

Before your first voice lesson, you can ask your instructor what you should expect and how to prepare.

How many singing lessons do I need?

It depends on what you’re hoping to accomplish with your singing lessons. Consult a highly rated vocal instructor to determine how many lessons you should take — and how often you should take them.

Do singing lessons actually work?
