HOMEOPATHY: Homeopathic medicines are lactose or sucrose pellets laced with diluted amounts of mineral salts, plant extracts, and other compounds. The treatment principle is based on the principle "Similia Similibus Curentur" or "Like Cures Like" based on Samuel Hahnemann's discovery that vacilliating fevers could be cured by a substance diluted down called Quinine. These medicines work by activating what is referred to as "The Vis" or "The Vital Force," in Naturopathic Medicine. The homeopathic remedy is prescribed by considering the "Totality of Symptoms," in other words- looking at the individual as a whole. In terms of the process, an initial consultation takes place over the course of 90 minutes to establish the appropriate homeopathic remedy. A followup is scheduled two weeks after to confirm treatment with the correct remedy, or change the prescription if there is no response. A second followup ensues in 1-2 months with further followup on an as needed basis. ACUPUNCTURE: If you decide on an acupuncture treatment, there is an initial consult to learn about your concerns and symptoms and establish the appropriate points to needle. Dr. Mitchell practices acupuncture based on the 8 principle theory - Yin, Yang, Excess, Deficiency, Interior, Exterior, Hot and Cold. Your symptoms work collectively and analagous to a lighthouse guide the practitioner in the establishment of an acupuncture prescription specific to you as an individual. Treatments are typically weekly (more frequent for severe cases), with 8-12 rounds of treatment. You'll know within the first 3 sessions if the acupuncture is going to be helpful for you. RHEUMATOLOGY/MEDICAL CONSULTATION: Extensive medical workup. The doctor will review all of your health records, taking a thorough health history, performing a physical exam, establishing any necessary referrals and ordering labs and/or imaging.
