Introduction

I have been teaching children and adults how to play the piano for over thirty years and have learned so much during that time. It is so much fun to connect with a student and figure out what it takes to help them learn and love the music they play. This brings them and me much satisfaction. I am always patient and soft spoken as I teach the many important basics of music so necessary for a student to fully learn a piece. I also incorporate fun learning tools such as special music games that help students learn the fundamentals of music in a fun and enjoyable way. At my studio, students play a beautiful baby grand piano, a rare treat. What I love most about my job is teaching a student how to perform beautiful music and sharing in the fun they have in accomplishing their musical goals. And, that we are able to do this in beautiful and comfortable surroundings. It is so fun inviting a student into my studio, teaching them how to sit at the piano properly, and then proceeding to introduce the wonderful world of music to them and witness their smiles and giggles as they play a fun piece for the first time. I love teaching the fundamentals of music such as note reading, rhythm and dynamics, and helping students apply what they learn as they study each new piece.

Julie is a great teacher. She is thorough but also wants the student to enjoy playing the piano. My daughter has just started taking lessons with her but really likes it so far.

I've been taking piano lessons from Mrs. Briggs for 5 years. I started from no experience at all at the age of 40. I must say that could not have been more impressed, greatful and satisfied with her instructions. She is an excellent piano teacher and finds individual approach for every student. She has students of all ages and my experience has been wonderful. Mrs Briggs is very patient, thoughtful and knowledgable.

It's not easy to find the right piano teacher especially for kids. My son was 4.9 years when he started with Mrs. Julie Briggs. She was so patient with him & she is the most wonderful combination of talent, skill & qualification. Many other pianists we met were some how lacking skills to teach kids on their level of understanding. But, she knows how to teach effectively. She is passionate about music, she encourages them & coach them perfectly. My son was ready in 1.5 months to read his music sheet. In all the things we hoped a music teacher would be, Mrs. Briggs has turned out to be all of them and more. We were planning to continue lessons as long as we can. But it's sad that she is moving. My son is already missing her & keeps telling he likes mrs. Briggs a lot! Parents of Amogh Suma Sandeep

Julie and I have had email correspondence before we met and she is courteous and her contact was good. I had my first lesson and everything was good and I have hired Julie on a weekly basis. I would recommend Julie to my family and friends and I will continue to use her service.

My daughter has been taking piano lessons from Ms Briggs for 7 years now, and enjoys the challenges it offers. We'd had group lessons from other teachers before, but the one-on-one attention provided by Julie is far better- my daughter has come a long way over the last 7 years, and it has been a wonderful and enriching experience for her.

How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started taking piano lessons when I was eight years old. I loved playing the piano and by third grade I knew I wanted to be a piano teacher. Continuing to learn and excel, I was able to study with the renowned Dr. Donald Isaak at Arizona State University while still in high school. During this time, even though very busy with school, and practicing several hours a day, as well as often performing, I started teaching some friends and family members. I enjoyed teaching and the money I was able to earn. Since that time I have given piano lessons to children and adults of all ages and in many different situations, and I think I always will because I love it that much.
