Hi, I’m Angelica. I have been a Professional Language Instructor for many years, with a concentration on teaching Medical Professionals for the last several years. My medical background includes formal training and certification by the US Coast Guard as a licensed MedPIC (Medical Person-In-Charge) for commercial sea-going vessels. This training, along with many years of experience as a MedPIC, has provided me with a rather detailed knowledge of many ailments, procedures, and medications. This MedPIC license was associated with my certification as a USCG licensed 1600-ton boat captain, sailing around the world on oceanographic research vessels. Also, in a past life, as a software developer, I participated in the development of the Siemens application to ensure compliance to CFR Title 21 regulations for Medical Device manufacturing and traceability. I was born in Mexico and grew up bilingual – English and Spanish. I moved to the US to attend boarding school. I have a B.S. degree in Computer Science from University of California. I did my graduate work in Software Engineering at Stanford University. I have lived in Southern and Northern California, Boston, Miami, and Arizona. I speak English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, and beginner Tagalog. I have taught ESL and Spanish, at college level and one-on-one. I am fortunate to have attended the best language schools in France, Italy, and Germany. Over the years, I have combined my language skills and technical background to develop unique, proprietary linguistic methods and tools optimized for visual, online instruction. My content and approach utilize extensive colorful and dynamic materials that enable my students to engage in basic conversation almost immediately. Angelica (and Charlie) are exceptional. Angelica’s lessons are really organized and easy to follow. She makes learning so much fun! My husband and I look forward to our lessons together. We are learning so much more than we ever did in school. I can’t recommend Angelica enough, if you’re looking to study Spanish.

Being a medical professional, I see the lack in communication between patients speaking a different language other than English. Becoming bilingual in Spanish made the most sense to benefit all patients, which is why I started taking lessons with Angelica. Angelica was great helping me learn the basics to fully comprehend the structure of sentences. It became easy for me to see why sentences were put together in a specific way, and then I started to see patterns to know what direct/indirect object, etc. to add. Angelica was very flexible to meet me at a time that worked for me with my busy schedule. Angelica made lessons fun, which made me want to set up more lessons to practice pronunciation and it made the material easy to learn. The material added to a google doc with each lesson made going back for a review super convenient and easy to where I can print out a page and study that lesson or vocabulary and not feel overwhelmed.

I have taken Spanish classes from Angelica over the last year. After having taken Spanish in high school over two decades ago, and having tried Rosetta Stone on and off, I was frustrated with my inability to converse despite all my efforts. Angelica told me she would be able to help me put it all together and start speaking Spanish very quickly. I was skeptical but decided to give it a try. I saw right away that Angelica’s methods were very different. She did a complete assessment of my strengths and weaknesses. She leveraged my strengths and reinforced my weaknesses very quickly. For my pronunciation, she recommended Pimsleur for my independent study time. I always felt that I needed to SEE the word before I could pronounce it, but it turns out that was exactly the problem. For the more difficult sounds, she used speech therapy methods that helped me tremendously to make the sounds that gave me the most difficulty. I now see how this can only be accomplished one-on-one. When I started following Angelica’s recommendations, my pronunciation improved dramatically. Angelica’s lessons are very easy to understand and follow. She uses interactive, self-paced presentations that use color to highlight and differentiate, and motion to show the correct position of sentence components. It’s very easy to follow, and easy to remember. I was surprised how, one by one, her predictions came true. Her method of conversation coaching helps me remember the vocabulary I thought I had forgotten. Her conversational drills clearly demonstrate the practical use of grammar rules, and the repetition makes it so that I don’t have to think about how to apply grammar rules in order to speak. I am very happy with how quickly and significantly my Spanish has improved in the time I have been working with Angelica. If I had to describe what she has done for me, I would say she brought everything together in just the right way to help me finally get to fluency. I highly recommend Angelica. She makes the process much easier and more enjoyable. And IT WORKS!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We offer 3 standard package options for individuals: 15-hour, 30-hour, and 100-hour. Prices are $50/hour, $45/hour, and $40/hour respectively. A 2-payment option for the 30-hour package and a 3-payment option for the 100-hour package are available. We have a no-questions money-back guarantee for all packages -- if after four sessions you are not fully satisfied with your instructor, we will refund your money (less $200 for the four sessions). We also have an attractive refund policy for any unused hours of the 100-hour package. Attractively priced “Buddy” packages for two are also available. All above packages have a price freeze for 15 months, so you are guaranteed no rate increase when you renew. We also offer a post-fluency maintenance package for students who have made it through the FINAL MILE to fluency and wish to maintain and advance their fluency. Upon initial package selection and payment, a contract will be sent to you confirming your selection and outlining the above FINAL MILE commitments.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Upon receiving your request for availability, our Director of Student Services will contact you to answer any questions you might have, and discuss with you our package pricing, your objectives, our payment options, your availability, and confirm your commitment to 60-minute sessions (75-min. and 90-min. also available). Assuming you are still interested in journeying to fluency with FINAL MILE, he will schedule a FREE 30-minute session for you with our Lead Instructor Angelica. She will then email you all the information you need for your 30-minute session. This initial session is designed for you and Angelica to get to know each other and determine if there is a personality match (critical to your success). Angelica will then do a language level assessment that will enable her to determine the best learning plan unique to your situation. During this session, she will showcase our state-of-the-art interactive, dynamic, proprietary content designed specifically for online instruction. Finally, she will discuss with you appropriate linguistic pedagogy methodology.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
