Introduction
Are you looking for a patient, experienced, knowledgeable instructor? Are you interested in learning to play the music you love, using techniques that are healthier for your hands? My instruction promotes efficient, ergonomically sound, time-tested playing techniques. I also offer an affordable monthly flat rate tuition plan for weekly full hour lessons. I am a professional guitar instructor. I’ve been playing guitar for over 40 years and have been a Guitar Instructor for more than 30 of them. I graduated from Shenandoah University Conservatory, earning a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with Magna Cum Laude Honors in 1996. I’ve studied Classical Guitar, Jazz Guitar, Violin, Piano, Music Theory, Psychology, and other related areas. I have experience playing in rock and pop bands, jazz combos, mixed instrumental duos and trios, classical guitar quartets, small and large classical guitar ensembles, and solo performance. I use a combination of teaching materials including method books, my own original teaching materials, and material chosen by the student. I like to customize my lesson plans to fit the needs of each individual student. I have patiently guided hundreds of aspiring guitarists through their musical development from childhood through adulthood and beyond. I work with mature and retired adult students as well as middle-school aged children, and teenagers. My teaching experience includes community arts programs and music schools, various music stores, and my professional home teaching studio as well as several years of specialization in web-based online guitar instruction. Although I am new to this platform, I have extensive experience providing online guitar instruction to students via Zoom and other platforms. I teach many genres such as classical, rock, metal, pop, jazz, blues, and other improvisatory styles. Unlike many of the other instructors you will find who are teaching to supplement their performance income, my main occupation is teaching, so my main focus is you. I will be patient with you, and will continually strive to get to know you better, in order to better understand your unique educational needs. Students currently studying with me include young through older adult and retirement age students with performance goals ranging from the private, personal enjoyment of playing music, to some potential professional aspirations. I strive to provide a friendly, comfortable learning environment students can thrive in. I won't pressure you to play recitals in order to increase my studio size, but I will greatly encourage you to play an active role in customizing your own individual curriculum. As soon as you have the skills, you should be learning to play the music you love. Regardless of what your musical goals are, I would love to help you learn the skills you need to reach them. Thank you so much for your time.
