FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Murals are priced by square feet. On average, I charge around $25 per square foot. However, pricing will vary depending on the amount of detail in the painting, the surface of the wall, the need for heavier equipment for taller murals, and travel. My minimum rate for mural jobs is $1500. Once a design is in place and I get to see the space/wall where the mural will live, I will be able to give you an exact quote! Other commission work is commonly done on stretched canvas. For these projects, pricing starts at $1.50 per square inch. Discounts increase as the canvas size increases! A deposit of 50% of the total price is due at the start of the project.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For murals, I prefer to start by meeting at the painting site to get a good idea of the surface and space. From there we will discuss ideas and inspiration. I will prepare a mural estimate complete with a price quote and contract. After a deposit is placed, that is when I will get started on sketches! This is when we get to the fun part! Coordinating our calendars to create beautiful art on your wall! For commission works on canvas, I like to discuss details over the phone to get a better idea of your vision. The size of the canvas and the price are determined first in order to promptly order materials to build the canvas. I hand stretch every canvas, taking pride in every step of the process. Check out my blog on my website (erinashcraft.com) for a more in-depth video on this!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in Painting and Drawing from Southwest Baptist University.
