Has been teaching in the Bay Area for years and recently relocated to San Mateo! I teach students age 5 - 17. My focus is to make sure students learn good fundamentals, and has an opportunity to play well, regardless they are interested in doing music professionally or just want to cultivate piano interest as a habit for life-time. We took a trial lesson for our children who are older beginners at piano. We were very pleased with the trial and have set lessons to begin soon. Sharon has been very responsive thus far, and she seems exceptionally effective at incorporating critical piano techniques, checking to ensure what the kids were familiar with already from school exposure at the trial. She is bright and engaging, straightforward, and very warm. She sent book lists and PDFs of the first lesson. The kids are looking forward to their lessons and have already practiced faithfully today.

Sharon is very knowledgeable about piano and patient to teach my 8yr old daughter about many aspects of piano playing, including basic skills, theory, as well as practicing methods. My daughter is very comfortable with learning from Sharon, and looks forward to her class every week. Both her interest and skills have improved after learning from Sharon.

Sharon is very patient and at the same time rigorous about getting every single detail right. She has been very helpful in revising different concepts when I first learnt playing piano many years ago, as well as teaching various piano techniques that I didn't realize was important for the long term, especially guiding me how to fix my hand posture. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer a free trial lesson to the new student. Based on how the student performs in the trial, student/parents and I will determine the length of the lessons together. I provide 30/45/60 minutes lessons with different rates.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I believe the relationship between teacher and students is the key to determining how much improvement student will get. I would like to know more about my students via the free trial lesson I provided. Students therefore will have a chance to know me, see how he/she feels. It's especially important to the young beginners and introverted students.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Current DMA student (Doctor of Musical Art) in Piano Performance at Stony Brook University, NY. 2012-2014: Master degree in Piano at the University of Kansas as a scholarship student. 2006-2010 Bachelor degree in Piano at Tunghai University, Taiwan. Besides the degrees I've received, I'd like to mentioned that our graduate school programs require us to be trained not only a performer, but also a teacher who possesses a practical training and knowledge via Piano Pedagogy (Piano Education), Piano Technique, and Piano Literature courses.
