FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Prices really depend on the style, fabric and construction of the garment so I typically cannot give exact prices until the dress is fitted, but I try to give good ranges so you can get an idea! Pressing/steaming is FREE with alteration services! Casual or every day garments typically range from $20-$40. Dress pant hems are $20 per pair for topstitched hem, $30-$40 per pair for invisible hem. Bridesmaid dress alterations or similar type alterations typically range from $40-$150. Prom gowns or similar type dresses that have a lot of beading usually range from $60-$200. Typical wedding gown alterations usually range from $100-$350 total, more complex wedding gowns with lots of beading or lace work, or gowns that require a lot of work, typically range from $350-$600. Making a dress into a corset back typically ranges from $100-$150 plus the cost of material, however if we are short on time it may range from $150-$200 plus the cost of material. Wedding gown or similar type gown alterations are recommended to begin 4-8 weeks prior to the wedding date, bridal portraits date, etc. Alterations for all other garments are recommended to begin a minimum of 2 weeks before the date needed. Rush fees may apply to any garments needed in less than the recommended alterations time frame.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After making sure we have enough time to do the alterations, we set up an appointment for the 1st fitting. Once the first appointment is scheduled then I give out my full address and the specific directions on how to get there. At the first fitting we go through all the options of what I can do, pin the dress, cut the hem, pin up the bustle, etc. At that time we should know how many fittings the garment will require. Casual garments are usually taken home at the 2nd appointment, but wedding gowns typically require 3 appointments. 2nd fittings are typically for checking hems, bustles, and all other adjustments that we did at the 1st fitting, and then by the 3rd fitting you can typically take it home!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
