FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lessons at my studio are typically $25/half or $40/full hour.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
In our first lesson we assess the student's current drumming abilities while we discuss music, drumming, and the process of learning. Whether beginner or experienced, I address fundamentals (ie. posture, sticking technique) and we begin with a basic reading chart and play out some figures on a practice pad. Once we've established a baseline for the student's technical and reading abilities, we move onto the drum kit and test some coordination skills. Though it sounds like a technical process the way I'm describing it, it's all pretty fun and easygoing. And once we've gone through that, I will have assessed exactly how I can do my best as a teacher to help my new student grow into becoming a great drummer!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been playing for over twenty-five years. I have received countless hours of private instruction since my teens, and have worked with top industry professionals for the entirety of my professional drumming career. For the ten years I lived in Los Angeles, I toured with national acts and recorded in a number of LA's recording studios before I settled down to start a family, and have been a teacher for just about twenty years. In addition to that, I worked for eight years in music retail, running the largest drum shop on the West Coast for two of them.
