Introduction

Kelly Irwin has been an photographer and artist living in New York City for over 25 years. Her photography work includes wedding and event photography, university catalogs and calendars, corporate black tie events and fundraisers, portraits of authors for book jackets, and collaborations with poets. Her fine art work has been shown in Europe, the US, and Mexico. She is a co-founder of SaKe Publications, a small press specializing in bringing artists' visions to reality - publishing CDs, videos, and books. Kelly is a Chashama studio artist and works from her Harlem studio.

Kelly Irwin is probably the best photographer i have ever had the privilege of hiring. She not only takes the best picture, but also she has a wonderful way of dealing with people. She knows how to work around to get the most interesting pictures. Kelly has photographed our Annual Alumni Dinner for the past several years and composition wise her pictures clearly capture the essence of the event. As a wedding officiant in NY State, I have had the opportunity of seeing Kelly at work several times. Kelly has the wonderful capacity of making everyone comfortable, and I mean everyone. The bride, the groom, the in laws, the children, the grand parents, cousins, brothers, sisters and friends all open up to her and they have fun. She catches the joy and excitement in their faces on such a memorable occasion. I also know Kelly's work beyond wedings: it is always inspiring and as an artist she knows how to catch "light." Kelly is very professional and her photos show it.

Each client is different and their needs vary. A wedding or barmitzvah client is vastly different from a non-profit or corporate client. My job is meet their needs photographically and create work that will reflect their vision at this moment in time.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look at their online work, portfolios, and most important, meet with the artist/photographer. Having an artist that you can easily work with is vital to the process.
