FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I recently underwent the CPP (Certified Professional Photographer) process through the Professional Photographers of America. Basically it consisted of passing a set of comprehensive exams and a stringent portfolio review. To maintain my certification, I have to accumulate continuing education points for classes and workshops throughout the year.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've been an artist as long as I can remember. First crayons, then pencils/pastels, eventually lots and lots of paint. I started shooting for art purposes when I was 15. After college, I took a job as a retoucher/designer/photo production coordinator at a local museum. In 2003 I founded Fenix Fotography and built it into one of Charlotte's most recognized photography brands. In the years since I've provided images for advertising and worked as head photographer for several local magazines.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Find a photographer whose work you really like. Shop on quality and not price--these photos will be used a long time and if they are shoddy it will reflect poorly on you and your company. Meet with them and see if they are listening to your needs and that you get along. Make sure they have extensive training and experience and can handle the job.
