Introduction
My focus is makeup for high-definition photography and video. I learned to do makeup for the camera right from the start! The reason my portfolio is so extensive is not just because I love doing photoshoots (although I do – they’re so much fun!) but because I know how important it is for makeup artists to create faces that look amazing in person as well as on screen, in any lighting situation. As an artist with a flourishing commercial media makeup career, I’m something of a rarity in the bridal industry (particularly in Western New England). I bring an editorial eye to every wedding that I do, and I don’t fall back on a cookie-cutter look that doesn’t suit the face (or the personality) that I’m working with. I work very collaboratively with clients to help them look their best from every angle and in every medium. My motto? Blending is everything! Another thing that sets me apart is that my services are fully mobile – I come to you with my kit, comfy director’s chair (to make you feel like the V.I.P. you are), and even a table and lighting if needed. You don’t have to worry about providing a perfect studio set-up for me, and you don’t have to take time out of an already stressful day to go to a salon to get your makeup done. Just sit back at your home, hotel room or wherever, relax and enjoy a mimosa while I work my magic! I also have a modest home studio which provides a comfortable space for trial runs and private client consultations. Finally, I’m an avid writer and love to share my knowledge with others – I blog extensively, I have a free ebook you can download from my website, I regularly serve as an expert resource in a variety of media, and I publish a biweekly newsletter as well – check them out! I love bringing out everyone's natural beauty - enhancing what is already there and making it shine. I especially love the reaction my clients have when they see themselves in the mirror! I also love the creativity, incorporating color theory and contouring in ways that are unique to every face I work with, and being able to vary the effect - from the natural, no-makeup clean look that is my specialty to more dramatic looks that are so much fun to do - with just a few strokes of my brush!

"Liz is simply fantastic. She did my bridal makeup in October, 2011--and I was literally a blank slate for her to work with because I have a hair loss disorder and do not have any eyelashes or eyebrows. I wanted a classic bridal look, but was nervous that because of my hair loss, I would never be able to look or feel like a "real bride." Liz chose makeup shades that brought out my best features and made me look absolutely fantastic--and still like myself. The day of my demo, my now-wife and friends kept getting distracted and would gaze at me and gush about how natural and gorgeous my makeup was. One of my friends has worked with several professional makeup artists, and she kept remarking on the quality of Liz's artistry! I had a "I'm movie-star" giddiness about me all day and did not want to wash it off that evening. On the day of the wedding, Liz was phenomenal. I felt very much like a real bride! Liz was punctual, kind, mellow, and professional--she calmed my bridal jitters and worked very well in the hectic pre-ceremony moments complete with photographer, bridesmaids, and last minute snafus. Liz Washer is supremely talented! I was really nervous about my eyelashes and eyebrows looking natural and not sliding off my face since there were no real hair for them to stick to...Et Voila! My lashes and brows looked entirely natural, really set off my eyes, and held up all night! And...I never felt weighted down by makeup or like there were pesky caterpillars on my lids. Considerate and thoughtful, Liz even gave me a touch-up goodie bag. I never needed it because my makeup, including the false lashes, held up all night through tears, laughter, and lots of dancing! I highly recommend Liz. You will not be sorry!

Liz was amazing - I never looked so gorgeous in my life (and probably never will!) My photographer had worked with Liz before and recommended her - so lucky and thankful! Liz is professional, easy, cool and an incredible makeup artist. She's done tons of work (editorial and wedding) but all that mattered to me was how beautiful she made me look. I asked for the Kim Kardashian look (yes it's true, I'm a little ashamed to admit it) and she delivered - my smoky eyes were perfect - she airbrushed my face and my skin looked natural and flawless, not caked on and fake. I absolutely loved it all, and Liz did an incredible job with my mom's and sister's makeup too (my sis said she looked better at my wedding than she did at her own wedding a few years back, and she was right). The makeup lasted (I swear if I slept right I could've kept it going the next day lol). Nothing smudged, it all lasted through an emotional ceremony, sweaty Greek dancing, all of it. Liz rocks. I HIGHLY recommend her if you're in the Western Mass area (and I think she travels too). Love Liz! (Wish she could airbrush my face everyday...)

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Absolutely; I am always adding to my skills! I have taken workshops from Temptu airbrush and MAC Pro, and am an active member of the Powder Group (an association in NYC that offers extensive programming and education for professional artists). I also read and research extensively, and am always up for learning new techniques.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

My work is divided into two main categories: personal and commercial (hence, two websites!) My commercial work includes advertisements and promotional materials (for print, web and video) and photography (such as corporate headshots and author portraits). My personal services include bridal and event makeup. I also offer private lessons and consultations.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

First and foremost, look closely at the makeup artist's portfolio. Does the work and quality reflect what you are seeking? Does the artist demonstrate skill working with different skin tones? Does the makeup look natural in photographs, or heavy? A professional makeup artist should be able to show a range of current photos of their work.
