Introduction

Most photographers charge you a session fee, then they have a proofing meeting with you and have you choose what photos you want prints of and how many prints you want. They have set packages that include a set number of images and they don't release all the digital files to you only the ones that you purchased prints of. I charge a flat fee and give my clients all of their best images from the session so they can have them printed at a lab of their choosing. I don't make them order prints from me. The people! I have met so many wonderful people and it is such an honor that they trust me to capture the photos that they will be using when they tell their children and grandchildren stories. Photos are always cherished by the client first and when they pass their children cherish them and their grandchildren after.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I do all military homecomings and photos free of charge. I have a fixed rate on other projects that varies by the details of the job.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I constantly take courses to improve my craft and challenge my skills. I want to stay fresh and sharp.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I wanted family photos after my daughter was born. I couldn't find anybody we could afford. Everybody wanted a session fee and then $200 or more for prints. I got no digital images that I could have printed myself. I had to choose a few poses and go with those...who can really choose just a few when it comes to their family? To me, that wasn't pocket change and I didn't get much for my money...it was disheartening to say the least. So I set out to learn from the pros through internships and assisting so I could take pictures of my family. Friends started asking me to take photos for them. One friend led to another and I decided to go for it. I keep my prices well below the going rate so I am affordable to everyone. I give my clients all their images that turn out and I let them choose if they want professional prints or if they want to print themselves elsewhere.
