Rick has been great at designing my piano lessons to meet my needs. As an adult who had piano lessons many years ago,I do not fit the traditional model of a beginning student, I had a notion of what I would like to learn to do on the piano, but had no idea where or how to begin.Rick has been helping me to shape these ideas, by patiently answering all of my questions regarding music theory. I also love his studio!

Rick has done an excellent job in teaching me about the Blues and also teaching me music composition and improvising music. He is also very friendly and it is always a fun and productive lesson!

I have been able to see Rick work with my 12-year-old son as well as other young musicians. While he is ridiculously talented as a musician, he also has a great knack for tapping into his students' specific interests. My son's interest in music received a perfectly timed boost from working with Rick. Impressive.

Rick is a great guy. A very patient teacher who incorporates electronic music production into his lessons. I had a lot of fun working on composition and would hire him to produce my songs (if I had any ;P).
Piano Lessons

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I spend the first lesson understanding what the student wants to learn as well as where he/she is in terms of piano/music proficiency. From there I develop a plan to teach. Frequently lessons involve 1/2 piano technique/music theory and 1/2 music production/composition in a working, professional studio.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have studied music from age 7 (classical piano) throughout college (studio recording, electronic and classical music courses), and post-college study (American Conservatory of Music). I have been playing professionally since 1986. Currently I perform with Poi Dog Pondering, The Booty Movement Coalition, RC7, WillFromBrazil, solo jazz piano at The Signature Room on the 95th floor of the John Hancock building, and others. I have produced commercial music for McDonald's, Walter E. Smithe, and others. I have remixed countless tracks for various artists and major labels like Sony, and Blue Note.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked with both seasoned musicians and complete newbies. Adding the production and composition aspect has helped create lasting customers.
