The purpose of a trainer is to serve their clients with the best fitness service possible within a given time. Sometimes a client may not be 100% for any given reason and that is where a true personal trainer shines.
Within our boot camp, there isn't just one person, but many people that are the responsibility of the instructor. A trainer like me can recognize when someone within a group needs a little extra motivation. Sometimes that motivation may be verbal or sometimes it may need to be with a physical modification to the exercise. As an experienced fitness instructor, one has to know which motivational tool is applicable to the situation at hand in an instant to avoid injury. My experience in exercise routines as a former overweight person and later as an elite athlete gives me the presence of mind I need to recognize, even before hand, what effect the exercise has on each individual member of the group.
What I most like about my job is the fact that it doesn't feel like a job. Every day I wake up at 4:45AM ready to go to work to see who might be the person to set their own personal best in what we might be doing on that day. It seems like every day one or more people are running faster, doing more crunches, or pumping out more pushups than ever. I feel like I am not only a trainer for Valley Forge Fitness, but an integral part of the lives of every member. That is what makes my job feel less like a job and more like a purpose.
