- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Shop around for an instructor with a combination of the best attitude and the best qualifications. I've seen friendly shooting instructors who could hardly put their bullets on paper, and skilled instructors with condescending attitudes. It will take a while, but find one with good skills who clicks with you personally. I recommend you start by trying with me! : P An instructor should also get bonus points for his willingness to travel and work around your schedule. At this point he is essentially your personal instructor; and those rarely come cheap. Most people in the business do it only as moonlighting at a range they already work at so they can take in two paychecks at the same time. I have no problem working with your schedule and traveling as long as I am compensated fair market value for the gas I use to get wherever it is you need me An instructor gets bonus points for keeping his prices low, but absolutely do not make this mandatory for him. No matter how high his prices may be, if his classes teach you how to defend your life, then they are worth it. My prices are the lowest in town, and people still complain about them. My only response is, "If someone doesn't think his life is worth $15 an hour, he's probably right."
