Introduction
Bella Voce for Your Beautiful Voice I offer voice instruction and coaching in the classical style, which gives the singer a strong foundation in using the vocal instrument. I have 20 years of teaching experience in NY, FL, and NC. A high percentage of my students have gone on to study music in college (NYU, Stetson, FSU, and others) or to perform. Each lesson is recorded on CD for your use in home practice.

At age 13, my son was referred to Barbara Norris by his piano/guitar teacher. He had never taken voice lessons or even really been exposed to classical music, and especially not opera. He went for an audition with her, and at first was afraid. But she worked with him and calmed him down, so that by the end of the audition, he felt like he could and wanted to learn this from her, and they ended up forming a strong friendship. Barbara taught him how to see his voice as an instrument to be taken care of, and she taught him good breathing techniques. She exposed him to different languages and different genres of music. She prepared him for auditions in the Masters Track program and the music academy at his high school. Because of her work with him, he felt confident to try out for vocal parts in school musicals, concert chorus, chamber choir, and madrigals. He competed in FVA solos for four years and got superior ratings every time. He performed solos for school and church, and even sang on street corners in the old city of St. Augustine. Barbara came to his performances at school and for the FVA to encourage him. He is now getting his bachelors degree in music on a vocal scholarship, and he has worked with at least four different churches in their music programs.

Barbara Norris is an amazing teacher. I studied with her for three years, in which she solidified my technique and helped me develop a truly beautiful sound. Barbara’s many years of experience on and off the stage as well as teaching set her above and beyond what you will normally find in Asheville. Her musicality, patience, and kindness make her not only a fabulous teacher, but also a wonderful mentor. Do yourself a favor and study with Barbara if you have any interest in singing.

Barbara Norris was the best voice teacher I ever could have asked for! She transformed my voice! I took lessons with her for almost 7 years and she ended up feeling like family.

I had an awesome first session with Barbara. The lesson went well beyond my expectations. Barbara was able to assess my abilities pretty straight on, and embarked in vocalises that addressed the issues. She also is knowledgeable of repertoire, which is wonderfully gratifying...and reassuring. Despite my EXTREME hesitancy in the adventure, I've very happy I'm once more pursuing a musical journey. Where it will lead is anyone's guess: but the point of the journey is the way, not the destination. For now, I'm content to have a great guide.
